It lacks very little at the most important event for the world design industry – Milan Design Week – that will be held in Milan from 17 to 23 April 2023. To be more precise, Milan Design week is defined by both Fuorisalone – the set of events distributed in different areas of Milan – and Salone del Mobile which is staged in the halls of Rho Fiera.
The city is ready to receive a beautiful invasion of design lovers, industry specialists or who simply wants to breathe the lively atmosphere of Milan Design Week. This year Laboratorio Futuro will be the main theme and will be oriented to innovative materials and sustainable design, urban regeneration and artificial intelligence.
During Fuorisalone over twenty city districts will be involved with more than 180 events, including exhibitions, installations, events and exposures, DJ sets and private parties in the most elegant historic palaces, industrial buildings, courtyards and gardens.
As the events are many, I have identified the most interesting not to be missed:
GROHE SPA installation Health Through Water
GROHE comes back to the Fuorisalone with a unique and multisensory public experience in the heart of Milan for the launch of the premium GROHE SPA collection, celebrating its passion for water through an installation that reflects the beautiful architecture of one of the most prestigious art museums – Pinacoteca di Brera.
The installation, created by the design & brand identity team LIXIL Global Design, will be open to the public every day from 18 to 23 April: Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday 10.00 – 19.00, Thursday 12.00 – 17.00, Friday and Saturday: 10.00 – 22.00.

The installation inspired by a Danish natural landscape, whose protagonists are wood and water, will challenge the concept of time, embracing the idea of sustainable living. The setting will consist of a walkway that (ideally) floats on the water and an archipelago of islets that will allow visitors to discover, through sound captions, the products of the 15 selected companies accompanied by all-danish playlist.
Address: EX MACELLO, Viale Molise 62, Milan.
SolidNature in Spazio Cernaia
SolidNature, the Dutch brand expert in the processing of natural stones, participates for the first time at the Fuorisalone at Spazio Cernaia with an installation, designed by Ellen Van Loon and Giulio Margheri.
The installation, called Beyond the Surface, will guide visitors through a dreamlike labyrinth to discover the history of the geological formation of the stone and its metamorphosis. At the Lab Room the manufacturers will show the experimentation of the material by using marble dust.

An interconnection among human beings is celebrated at Milan Design Week 2023 with the installation Human Mandala by Sara Ricciardi at SIAM, in Via Santa Marta, 18. A series of real human bodies arranged in circular mandala formation will constitute the work in which each individual will be naked and vulnerable but connected to others with a root-like structure. The sense of symmetry and balance of the work is strong.
The urban jungle in Milan
On the occasion of the next Fuorisalone, Foscarini transforms the spaces of its showroom in Corso Monforte 19 into an unexpected garden with an installation on the facade and inside the store, a must-see during the design week. Grasses, herbs and uncultivated plants seem to regain possession of the environment in the exhibition project (IM)POSSIBLE NATURES signed by Ferruccio Laviani, choreographic frame for the launch of the new Fregio lamp.
The exhibition Lumières of Saint-Louis
From 18 to 23 April, in the Cloister of Santa Maria del Carmine, Saint-Louis, the first crystal factory in Europe founded in 1586, invites you to discover Lumières, light and sound installations designed in collaboration with the studio Nonotak.
Five installations: pulsations, rotations, vibrations, projections and diffractions, which bring together the most historic collections of the house, such as the classic chandelier with contemporary lamps represented by the wireless portable novelties.

Glo™ together with Agostino Iacurci with the installation Dry Days, Tropical Nights will transform the facade of the imposing tower of Largo Treves, before it is demolished, into an open-air art gallery.
